2024: Lighthouses of Hope at Sea

As the year comes to an end, we tend to reflect on what has happened. In our case, we can proudly say that our ships were lighthouses of hope at sea.

We look back with immense gratitude. It was a year where our hospital ships, the Global Mercy and the Africa Mercy, thanks to more than 1,700 volunteers from over 60 nations, became lighthouses of hope for Sierra Leone and Madagascar, respectively. Over 3,200 patients had their lives transformed through free surgeries. We were able to train 949 local healthcare professionals in six African nations, delivering more than 159,000 hours of training.

On behalf of all of us at Mercy Ships—staff, volunteers, and patients—thank you for your support every step of the way.

We look forward to a brighter 2025 with hope. Our hospital ship, the Global Mercy, will continue its humanitarian work in Sierra Leone, while the Africa Mercy will keep bringing hope and healing to Madagascar. With these plans on the horizon, we know the future will give us many reasons to celebrate. Nations will see their healthcare systems strengthened and transformed. We eagerly anticipate restoring hope, transforming lives, and sharing all these milestones—and much more—with you in 2025.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for sharing your time, talents, and resources with us this year. This work would not be possible without your support!

We want to share with you a video summarizing what we have been able to achieve with your help in 2024:

We count on you. Find your place—whether onboard one of our ships or by contributing in any way you can. Be part of the transformation of lives and nations.
